One of the most powerful outreach strategies for Easter does not require expensive marketing campaigns or complicated programs. It simply requires people.

Specifically, it requires ordinary church members who are willing to form friendships with and then invite and bring friends, neighbors, and coworkers to attend Easter services. Personal invitation remains the most effective way people begin attending church. Yet many congregations struggle to invite others consistently.

Why? Often the challenge is not unwillingness—it is uncertainty. Many believers want to invite others but are unsure how to begin the conversation or fear being rejected. This is where church leaders play a crucial role.

Helping People Become Inviters

When pastors and leaders encourage invitation intentionally, the culture of a congregation can shift. Instead of seeing Easter as an event organized by church staff, members begin to see themselves as participants in the mission.

Here are several ways leaders can help mobilize their congregations:

1. Cast the vision.

People are more likely to invite others when they understand the spiritual significance of the moment.

Remind your congregation that Easter celebrates the resurrection—the central message of the Gospel.

For someone who is spiritually curious, an Easter invitation may open the door to life-changing faith.

2. Make invitation simple.

Many members hesitate because they overthink the process. Encourage them with a simple approach: “Would you like to come to church with me on Easter?” Sometimes the simplest invitation is the most powerful.

3. Pray for people by name.

Encourage members to pray for specific people they know who might attend if invited. Prayer changes the posture of our hearts and opens opportunities we might otherwise miss.

4. Celebrate stories.

When someone invites a friend who attends church for the first time, celebrate it. Stories reinforce the culture of invitation. Over time, the congregation begins to see Easter not just as a celebration—but also as a mission opportunity.

The Ripple Effect of Invitation

When a church becomes intentional about inviting others, the impact multiplies quickly.

One invitation becomes several.

Several become dozens.

Dozens become a movement of people welcoming others into the life of the church.

The result is not simply higher attendance. The result is more people encountering the hope of the Gospel.
