“If we change that, we won’t be the same church.”
Someone on your leadership team has said it. Maybe it was you, staring at a giving report or an empty row that used to be full. It sounds like conviction. Most of the time, it’s self-preservation.
Your church was given one unchangeable thing: Go and make disciples. Everything else—the service order, the small group model, the way you do outreach—was built by people, in a decade that has already ended, for a congregation that no longer looks like the one in your pews. The Great Commission didn’t come with a delivery method attached. Every generation before yours had to invent its own.

Try this with your leadership team. What would genuinely break people’s hearts to lose, versus what would just feel unfamiliar for a season? Where did “the way we’ve always done it” quietly become the whole reason you do it? And if the people God has placed within a mile of your building right now walked through your doors, would they meet the same unchanging Gospel your grandparents did, delivered in a way built for their grandparents’ world?
That last question is the one worth losing sleep over, not the color of the carpet.
