Jesus prayed that His followers would be one so that the world would believe. Unity was never intended to eliminate theological distinctives, but it was meant to demonstrate that the Kingdom of God is larger than any individual congregation or denomination.
Increasingly, some of the most effective ministry is happening when churches collaborate around shared mission. Congregations partner to address homelessness, mentor students, plant neighborhood ministries, support foster families, and serve their cities together. These partnerships demonstrate that Kingdom impact multiplies when churches recognize one another as allies rather than competitors.
Collaboration also reflects good stewardship. Few churches possess every resource, gift, or expertise needed to meet the complex challenges facing their communities. By working together with other congregations, nonprofits, schools, businesses, and civic leaders, churches can accomplish far more than they ever could alone.
The future of faithful ministry will not be shaped by churches asking, “How can we become bigger than the church down the street?” It will be shaped by churches asking, “How can we join God together in blessing our community?” That question moves the conversation from institutional success to Kingdom impact, and it is a question every church should be asking.
